Circle of Care: Shelly Miller

“Personally, I have always wanted to live in Maine, as our family spent time there on our way to visit family in Nova Scotia. So, when I had the chance to move to Houlton in 2019, my husband and I jumped at the chance. We settled outside of Houlton with our 4 rescue dogs and have since adopted a cow! My adult children and 3 grandpuppies live in Pennsylvania, and I enjoy visiting them a few times a year. While I have been very blessed in my professional experiences over the years, nothing has been as rewarding or fulfilling as my time in hospice. I am so grateful to be able to provide care to this population and their loved ones again.”
Shelly was born and raised in a small college town in central Pennsylvania. She earned her RN in 2000 and began her career in hospice care before transitioning to the inpatient Hematology, Oncology, and Stem Cell Transplant care team at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pennsylvania.
In 2014, she earned a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) and became licensed as an Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner (AGNP). She practiced in pulmonary medicine before transitioning to a psychiatric specialty in 2016. In 2018, she earned her Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) certification and has been in private practice providing psychiatric medication management since 2022. Shelby is currently in her first year of the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Nursing program at Thomas Jefferson University, with a special interest in mental health in end-of-life care.
