The Aroostook Hospice Foundation, owner of the Aroostook House of Comfort, proudly celebrates its 6th anniversary on May 9th. Since opening its doors in 2018, the Aroostook House of Comfort has provided inpatient hospice care to over 900 individuals in 67 Maine communities while also supporting their families and caregiver teams. This milestone is shared with valued hospice partner Northern Light Home Care & Hospice. It represents not only years of dedicated service but also a testament to the unwavering support from the community.
Founded in 2009, the Aroostook Hospice Foundation spent years fundraising and collaborating with community members and volunteers to make the Aroostook House of Comfort a reality. Today, the six-bed, inpatient hospice facility operates in partnership with Northern Light Home Care & Hospice, the only Medicare-certified hospice provider in Aroostook County. The mission of the Aroostook Hospice Foundation is to provide quality, compassionate, end-of-life care, regardless of one's financial capacity. Donations are crucial for covering operational and facility expenses, including their Charity Care program, which offers financial assistance to patients in need. The Aroostook Hospice Foundation sustains its work through a range of fundraising activities, such as the Annual Golf Classic, Walk for Hospice, and Remembrance Way. In addition to these events, they actively pursue grant funding opportunities and maintain strong relationships with donors. Their fundraising and community outreach efforts are key to sustaining the Aroostook House of Comfort and raising awareness about the importance of hospice care.
A recent testimonial from Sam Clockedile of Houlton, whose mother received care at the Aroostook House of Comfort, encapsulates the impact of this mission: "I can't believe Aroostook County went without a hospice facility for so many years. We appreciate the love and compassion shown. My mother wouldn't have wanted it any other way."
The Aroostook Hospice Foundation is dedicated to expanding its reach and strengthening its commitment to compassionate care for this community.
