Where Hospice and Heart Come Together

As another year draws to a close, we reflect with gratitude on the people who make the Aroostook Hospice Foundation's work possible. Your generosity helps ensure that the Aroostook House of Comfort is here for patients and families throughout Northern Maine when they need us most. Whether you gave recently or some time ago, please know your gift has been part of something incredibly meaningful.
A Vital Role in Our Region
The Aroostook House of Comfort is the only inpatient hospice home north of Rockport and one of just four in Maine. We provide compassionate care for our neighbors, friends, colleagues, family members, and loved ones right here in Aroostook County. It is a place where patients receive care with comfort and dignity, and where families can focus on what matters most: being together.
How Your Donations Make a Difference
Your support helps sustain every part of our work:
· Our Charity Care program for families in financial need
· Care for our home and grounds, keeping it a safe and welcoming space
· The comforts and resources that make a difficult journey a little easier for patients and their families
Most importantly, your gift helps ensure that when the next family needs the Aroostook House of Comfort, we are here. Because of you, this is not just a building, but a place of healing, hope, and community.

A Family's Story
"Nancy Fitzpatrick, my mother, was diagnosed with bone cancer and passed away 28 days later. Married to a potato farmer and mother to four boys, she was strong and determined. The diagnosis shocked our family, and the cancer moved fast, first taking her speech. With my medical background and experience in end-of-life care, I knew this would be a new road for our family. I was thankful we had one another to get through it. Our first visit with hospice was professional, kind, and caring. They explained our options. Mom had two requests: to stay at home and be pain-free. Not all went as planned. After a seizure, it was decided to move Mom to the House of Comfort in Presque Isle. When we arrived, we were treated with compassion and care. Mom received the best care and passed surrounded by family at the House of Comfort. We appreciated the dignified care and treatment given to her and our family. We are blessed to have a facility like this in our area to help loved ones and families navigate this difficult road." — Joel Fitzpatrick
Gratitude for Our Community
We are deeply grateful to everyone who makes this mission possible, including our generous donors, Northern Light Home Care and Hospice staff, volunteers, board members, and the community. Special thanks to the Fitzpatrick family for sharing their story with us this year. Their experience reminds us of the difference this special place can make for a patient and the people who love them.
