Circle of Care: Shannon Flewelling

“Throughout my time as a nurse, I worked in intensive care. Some of my experiences with end of life while in the ICU made me realize that I would love to someday work with hospice; to have the opportunity to provide care with a goal of comfort and quality and to help patients and their family find some peace and healing throughout one of the toughest times of life. I did not expect to have the opportunity to work with hospice this early in my career, but I am so thankful to be here now. The past 6 months in hospice have shown me how incredible our team is and how blessed I am to be a part of this service to our community.”

Shannon Flewelling was born and raised in Aroostook County. She attended the University of Maine at Fort Kent for her bachelor’s degree in nursing, graduating in 2016. Her time as a registered nurse was spent at Northern Light A.R. Gould Hospital’s critical care department for a couple of years and then in Raleigh, North Carolina at a large cardiac intensive care unit prior to moving back to Aroostook County in 2021. She attended Georgetown University out of Washington, D.C. for her graduate degree in an acute care nurse practitioner program. She started working back at A.R. Gould in 2022 with Vascular Surgery and Pulmonology before making the transition to Northern Light Home Care & Hospice in September of 2024. She lives locally with her husband, Gaige, who is also an Aroostook County native, as well as their daughter and two dogs.
