Community Gifts Strengthen Charity Care at AHOC

For patients and families navigating the final chapter of a life, financial worry should never stand in the way of compassionate care. Thanks to the generosity of donors through the Maine Community Foundation, the Aroostook Hospice Foundation has received $16,000 in new contributions to its Charity Care Patient Assistance Fund, reinforcing the commitment that no one in Northern Maine will be turned away based on their ability to pay.

The Gifts

A $15,000 contribution from the Willey Family Foundation, part of a five-year pledge connected to the naming of Suite 4 at the House of Comfort, was designated specifically toward Charity Care. An additional $1,000 contribution from the Mimi Fund rounds out the total. Both gifts were received as donor-advised funds through the Maine Community Foundation.

“Support for Charity Care directly impacts patients and families during some of life’s most difficult moments and helps ensure this care remains available for all within our community.” - Abbey Clair, Executive Director, Aroostook Hospice Foundation

Care for Every Member of Our Community

The Charity Care Patient Assistance Fund helps cover costs for eligible patients so that financial hardship never becomes a barrier to receiving inpatient hospice care. The program depends entirely on community philanthropy to continue.

The Aroostook House of Comfort is the only inpatient hospice facility north of Augusta. Located centrally in Aroostook County, the 9,800-square-foot home features six private patient suites along with a family living room overlooking a garden, a chapel, a children’s playroom, and several private gathering areas. The House is owned by the Aroostook Hospice Foundation and operated in partnership with Northern Light Home Care & Hospice, the longest-serving Medicare-certified hospice agency in Aroostook County.

How to Support Charity Care
