The following tribute was written by Rick Duncan, Chairman of the Aroostook Hospice Foundation Board of Directors, a founder of the Aroostook House of Comfort, and dear friend of the late Michael D. MacPherson (Mike). Rick wished to honor Mike’s extraordinary efforts, leadership, and personal commitment to making the Aroostook House of Comfort a lasting reality. Their shared vision, rooted in compassion and community, helped bring this home into existence. His enduring legacy continues to be felt in every life touched by the care offered within its walls.
In Dedication to Michael D. MacPherson
“Mike MacPherson played an essential and lasting role in creating the Aroostook House of Comfort. From the earliest conversations about forming a nonprofit, to locating land, negotiating the building purchase, overseeing construction, and helping open Northern Maine’s first inpatient hospice home, which at the time was only the fourth of its kind in the state, Mike’s unwavering leadership helped bring this vision to life. His fingerprints are truly on every part of this hospice house.
A man of great intellect and heart, Mike was a gifted problem-solver who approached each challenge with clarity, compassion, and conviction. He was a steady presence, offering not only his time and talents but also his personal generosity to ensure the project’s success.
Mike’s dedication extended well beyond our hospice home. He was deeply committed to his community, actively involved in numerous civic efforts, always striving to improve the lives of others. His humility, kindness, and selfless service left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege to know and work alongside him. Mike’s legacy endures in the comfort and dignity experienced by each patient and family who walks through our doors and in the hearts of those inspired by his remarkable life of purpose and service.”
